SEACOM & SENTECH Team Up to Empower South Africa's SMMEs
SEACOM and SENTECH have joined forces to boost South Africa's digital economy. The two companies have signed a 12-month Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in South Africa. The partnership aims to empower SMMEs through mentorship, training, funding, and access to shared innovation platforms.
Anton Jooste, Managing Director for Digital Services at SEACOM, led the collaboration with SENTECH. The goal is to support SMMEs in South Africa's digital economy by 2025. Key focus areas include SMME empowerment, infrastructure expansion, skills development, content and cloud services, and public sector collaboration.
SMMEs play a crucial role in South Africa's economy. They form 91% of formal businesses, contribute 34% to the country's GDP, and employ 60% of the workforce. SEACOM, which launched Africa's first submarine cable in 2009, has been instrumental in lowering the cost of international bandwidth and enabling uncapped broadband products in South Africa. This partnership aligns with SEACOM's mission to transform the digital economy through inclusive participation.
SEACOM and SENTECH's 12-month MoU aims to strengthen SMMEs in South Africa's digital economy. By focusing on empowerment, infrastructure, skills development, and collaboration, the partnership seeks to harness the full potential of SMMEs, contributing to the country's economic growth and job creation.
