Solingen city funds its AWO-Kita Niederstraße project with Christmas shopping revenues
In the spirit of the holiday season, the Solingen municipal utilities recently held a coloring contest for local kindergartens and daycare centers to design the 2024 Christmas card. The contest received 42 wonderful Christmas pictures, each a testament to the children's creativity.
Joelle Daun, project manager of the municipal utilities project, mentioned the difficulty in choosing a picture due to the children's boundless creativity. The winning motif for the 2024 Christmas card was painted by Yuna (5), Lotte (6), Hilda (5), Luca (5), and Sophia (3) from the AWO kindergarten.
The children's Christmas pictures were so inspiring that the municipal utilities' employees were motivated to buy lottery tickets, with the opportunity to make the little ones happy. The winning kindergarten, the AWO kindergarten, received the entire proceeds from the municipal utilities' Christmas lottery, amounting to an impressive 2,500 euros.
Anke John, head of the AWO kindergarten, stated that this year's donation will be used to install an outdoor water slide in the kindergarten area. The AWO daycare center on Niederstrasse also received a nice prize, with plans to use the financial contribution to provide fun for the children.
Leif Reitis, managing director of the Solingen municipal utilities, also mentioned that kindergartens and daycare centers whose motifs were not selected also received a prize. This gesture of goodwill further underscores the municipal utilities' commitment to supporting the local community.
While specific information about the 2024 design or the use of proceeds in previous years may not be readily available, it is clear that this year's Christmas card design and lottery initiative have brought joy and excitement to the children and the community of Solingen.
