Survey released by KiJuPa reports findings based on opinions of 2,250 young individuals
In the summer of 2023, the Children and Youth Parliament (KiJuPa) of Marburg conducted a survey among 2,250 young residents, aiming to understand their concerns and wishes in various aspects of life. The survey was supported by Philipps University, with Prof. Dr. Ivo Züchner from Educational Science and Philipp Klingler from Political Didactics assisting in its evaluation.
School & Education
The survey revealed that students are eager for improvements in their educational experience. A stronger focus on career orientation, financial education, and mental health is desired, along with better toilets in schools.
Transportation & Mobility
In terms of transportation, 67.9% of students are dependent on public transportation, with this dependence increasing the further they live from the city center.
Leisure, Discrimination, and Media & Digitalization
No specific wishes or concerns were mentioned in the survey regarding leisure activities, discrimination, or media and digitalization.
Safety
When it comes to safety, students expressed a desire for more information on security and data protection, particularly in the area of social media. However, when it comes to their journey to school, 92.9% of students feel rather secure to very secure. Conversely, around 36% of students feel very insecure to rather insecure on the road with a bicycle.
Future, Politics & Participation, and Traffic
In the area of future, beyond the desire for better toilets and a stronger focus on career orientation, financial education, and mental health, no specific wishes or concerns were mentioned. Young people suggested a continuous dialogue between politics and youth, more visibility of local politics for their age group, and clear regulations for traffic calming and traffic safety around schools. They also expressed a wish for more buses and less parent taxis.

Unfortunately, the survey's evaluation process does not provide information about which institutions participated in its evaluation. The initiative for this survey was taken in 2023, following a visit by the then Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz to the Marburg KiJuPa.
