Little Interest in Educational Leave - Thuringia's Education Leave Act Sees Record Participation in 2024
Thuringia's Education Leave Act, enacted in 2015, enables employees to pursue continuous learning after their formal education ends. In 2024, around 1,200 workers took advantage of this opportunity, representing 0.13% of the state's total workforce.
By September 2024, approximately 4,900 courses from about 1,100 providers were recognized as educational leave options. This shows a significant increase in available courses since the act's implementation.
The number of participants in educational leave varied throughout the year. While around 1,200 employees took part in Coursera courses in April, only about 960 did so in October. This decrease could be due to seasonal factors or changes in course offerings.
Thuringian employees have a legal right to up to five working days of educational leave per year, with full salary retention. Despite the relatively low participation rate, the Education Leave Act offers a valuable opportunity for continuous professional development and personal growth.
