UK Boosts Costa Rica's Economy with £1M Science & Innovation Fund

The UK, a global leader in research and development, has allocated £1,000,000 to the British Embassy in Costa Rica for the 2015-2016 fiscal year. This substantial sum is earmarked for the Science and Innovation Fund, aiming to boost Costa Rica's economic growth and welfare through scientific collaboration.

The UK's commitment to international cooperation in science and innovation is evident, with the country accounting for 3.2% of global expenditure in this field. It boasts the most productive research base among the G7 nations and other leading research nations, producing 6.4% of global journal articles, 11.6% of global citations, and a staggering 15.8% of the world's most highly cited articles.

The Science and Innovation Fund operates in two stages: an initial concept bid, followed by a full bid. Typical projects range from £25,000 to £120,000, encouraging a wide range of participants from various sectors. These include government bodies, civil societies, international organizations, and the private sector. The fund is designed to foster new ideas, opportunities for innovation, and growth, while also addressing global policy challenges such as climate change, energy security, and pandemic disease.

The UK's investment in Costa Rica's scientific and innovative capabilities is set to strengthen bilateral relations and promote sustainable development. Despite no records of specific UK organizations involved in the 2015-2016 fund, the initiative underscores the UK's commitment to international cooperation and its role as a global leader in research and development.
