University Launches Prestigious Honors Program for Top Science Students
The Earth Sciences, Geosciences, Marine Biology, and Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences departments at our university invite exceptional students to apply for the Honors Program. This prestigious program offers a select few the chance to graduate With High Distinction.
To be eligible, students must have completed 90 units, including 12 upper-division units in their major, and maintained a 3.3 overall GPA and 3.5 major GPA. They must also submit an approved honors thesis research proposal and complete at least 8 units of SIO 196 related to their thesis, with a grade of B or higher.
The Honors Program culminates in an accepted written honors thesis report by a committee of at least three faculty members and a satisfactory oral report on the thesis research, preferably at a conference. Students must maintain a 3.3 overall GPA and 3.5 major GPA throughout the program to ensure successful completion.

The Honors Program is open to a limited number of students excelling in the mentioned majors, providing them with an opportunity to excel in their field and make significant contributions to their chosen discipline.
