The Minnesota State Fair 2025 promises an exciting array of educational and entertaining activities, with the University of Minnesota and 4-H taking centre stage. From August 21 to September 1, thousands of youth and visitors will immerse themselves in various activities, showcasing their acquired knowledge and skills.
In the Agriculture-Horticulture building, Master Gardeners volunteers will be available daily, ready to answer all your gardening questions. The discussions will cover a diverse range of topics, including hazelnuts, aronia berry - black chokeberry, juneberry, elderberry, honeyberry/haskap, dogwoods, willows, and more.
Meanwhile, the 4-H building at 1412 Cosgrove St. will be bustling with activities. The 4-H live cam will let you watch 4-H events, including livestock judging, on the fair's live-streaming camera. On August 23, the Share the Fun Performing Arts Showcase will take place at 6:30 p.m., and the 4-H Robotics demonstrations will be held on the first floor of the 4-H building at 10 a.m.
For those with a competitive spirit, a poultry judging contest will take place on August 21 at 1 p.m., while a rabbit judging contest will occur at the Compeer Judging Arena on the same day at 8 a.m. The 4-H beef championship will take place on August 22 at 2 p.m., at the Warner Coliseum.
The fairgrounds will also host a chicken BBQ contest on August 23, 1 p.m., outside the northeast corner of Warner Coliseum. A llama and alpaca costume contest will add a touch of fun on August 27 at 6 p.m., at the Warner Coliseum.
For those interested in livestock auctions, the Purple Ribbon livestock auction will take place on August 23 at 6 p.m., at the Compeer Arena, and the dairy showcase will occur on August 24 at 10:30 a.m., also at the Compeer Arena.
The University of Minnesota Crossroads Building at 1673 Dan Patch Avenue will host exciting scientific activities, including virtual reality and engineering challenges. Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) staff and partners will be at the Energy Information Center in the Eco Experience building, daily from noon to 6 p.m., showcasing energy-efficient home appliances and discussing ways to pay for them, including eligible rebates and tax credits.
The University of Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership will showcase the new Community Climate Leaders program on August 21, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Mary Hockenberry Meyer, Julie Weisenhorn, and Jon Trappe will broadcast Smart Gardens live from the WCCO booth, with a date and time to be announced later. Gary Wyatt, a natural resources educator, will discuss Fruits and Nuts from the Woods or Back Yard at the Crossroads Building on August 28, 10 a.m., and at the same venue on August 28, 4 p.m.
Minnesota Master Naturalists, forestry and wildlife volunteers, and Pollinator Ambassadors will be outside the DNR building on the southwest side, near the fish pond, daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fairgoers can play a trivia game to receive a collectible card for playing and polished Lake Superior agate if they answer correctly.
The first weekend of the fair will feature livestock encampment. On August 27-29, Minnesota Master Naturalists will provide wildlife information focused on beavers. Mark Seeley, the website climatologist emeritus, will appear on tpt Almanac live from the Fair on August 22, with a time to be announced later.
