West Bank Tensions Escalate: Israeli Settlers Attack Taybeh, Killing Palestinian-American

Tensions have escalated in the West Bank town of Taybeh, with a series of attacks by Israeli settlers causing significant damage and loss of life. The incidents have put local farmers and sacred sites at risk, drawing condemnation from religious leaders.

The violence reached a peak on July 11, when 20-year-old Palestinian-American Sayfollah Musallet was killed by settlers in the nearby town of Sinjil. His family alleges he was beaten while working on their farm, contradicting the Israeli military's claim that the incident began with stone-throwing. This was not an isolated event; Taybeh has been targeted at least four times in recent days, with attacks including arson and vandalism of homes, olive groves, and cultural landmarks.

The Council of Patriarchs and Heads of Churches of the Holy Land has condemned the attacks, demanding that Israeli authorities hold the settlers accountable. The leaders also called for an investigation into the lack of police response during the incidents. Over the past month, settlers have led cattle to graze on agricultural land, making it inaccessible to local farmers and damaging their livelihoods. The recent attacks in Taybeh are part of a broader pattern of settler violence and impunity across the West Bank, with over 300 Palestinians injured since January 1, 2025.

The attacks in Taybeh have caused significant damage and loss of life, putting local farmers and sacred sites at risk. Religious leaders have called for immediate action and investigation, urging Israeli authorities to hold the settlers accountable. The community demands an end to these systematic attacks against Christians throughout the West Bank.
