Workshop Focuses on Anti-Bullying: "We are a Class of Heroes!" (Rewritten)

The "We are a Superhero Class" workshop, developed by dobeq GmbH, is a unique initiative designed for students in grades 5 to 7. This program, conducted by specialists in youth social work, aims to foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment by addressing issues of exclusion and bullying.

By framing the classroom as a superhero team, the workshop helps students recognise the value of each individual's uniqueness and the importance of standing up against bullying and exclusion. It uses interactive exercises and discussions to raise awareness about the impact of exclusion and bullying, empowering students to take proactive steps to create an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.

Communication scientist Kai Preißler, who co-developed the workshop, explains that the symbolic game represents the worst essence of insults and can go much deeper than just physical harm. The workshop engages students in activities that build empathy, mutual respect, and teamwork, encouraging them to see themselves as "superheroes" who contribute to a supportive and accepting school community.

The workshop has received consistent positive feedback from schools, with many requesting it for the following year's fifth-grade classes. It has been proven to help school-refusing and school-weary youth in Dortmund, focusing on early prevention of school-related issues such as exclusion.

The workshop makes visible typical bullying roles such as perpetrator, victim, bystander, observer, and helps children analyse what can trigger exclusion. It activates positive role models from various sources, emphasising that these characters stand up for the weak, protect, and help, and would never bully.

Absenteeism, or the silent withdrawal from school due to fear, is a focus area of the workshops. A central message of the workshop is that superheroes don't exclude anyone, and it aims to help children understand the effects of exclusion and the importance of standing up for others.

Follow-up discussions are possible if individual children have further conversation needs. The workshops are conducted in close coordination with school social workers, either on-site or at dobeq's location in Blücherstraße. They are suitable for comprehensive, secondary, comprehensive, and grammar schools, and are free for schools.
