Year-round Enhancers for Increased Piety: 5 Options to Consider

In the pursuit of a virtuous life, Muslims strive to uphold the virtue of Taqwa, a concept that signifies the fear and consciousness of Allah. Here are some practices and actions that can help strengthen Taqwa, as outlined in Islamic teachings.

Firstly, reading the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah before sleep is believed to affirm belief in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, destiny, and the Hereafter, and provide protection (Al-Bukhari). This simple act of devotion can bring peace and strengthen one's faith.

Setting a daily Sadaqah (charity) target is another way to maintain Taqwa. Giving to the needy not only helps those in need but also serves as a reminder of Allah's blessings and the importance of sharing them.

Establishing prayer is crucial for boosting Taqwa. The Quran describes the Muttaqeen, or those who fear Allah, as those who establish prayer (2:1-5). Regular prayer serves as a constant reminder of Allah's presence and helps cultivate a deep sense of Taqwa.

The Quran states that the best provision is Taqwa (2:197). This means that focusing on Taqwa can lead to a more fulfilling and spiritually rewarding life. Learning the meaning of at least one word from the Quran each day is an action point for strengthening one's Taqwa.

Asking Allah for Paradise three times and seeking protection from the Fire three times is a Sunnah that brings supplication from the Paradise and the Fire. This simple act of supplication can serve as a powerful reminder of the Hereafter and the importance of leading a righteous life.

The Duha prayer, a two-rakah prayer that can be prayed anytime after sunrise until before about 30 minutes before Dhuhr, is another means to give charity on behalf of every bone in one's body, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stated.

Remembering Paradise and the Hellfire daily by using a specific supplication is another action point for strengthening one's Taqwa. This reminder serves as a constant reminder of the consequences of our actions and encourages us to lead a righteous life.

Daily asking for Tawfeeq, or the ability, to do good deeds and for Allah to accept them is another action point for strengthening one's Taqwa. This simple act of supplication can help focus our intentions and actions towards pleasing Allah.

Lastly, making the Quran an active part of one's daily routine is important for maintaining Taqwa. The more Quran in one's day, the stronger one's Taqwa will be. This can be achieved by reading, understanding, and reflecting on the Quran daily.

By incorporating these practices into our daily lives, we can strive to strengthen our Taqwa and lead a more virtuous and spiritually rewarding life.
